The event was played at the Crucible theatre from May 4 to May 9, 2022. David Lilley was the defending champion. He lost to Lee in the semi-finals.

Jimmy White, runner-up to Lilley in 2021, came second again, despite arguably playing the best snooker over the course of the event. He got a modicus of consolation by receiving the High Break prize for the 138 he made in frame 2 of his QF match against Rory Mcleod.

This championship had a particularly “diverse” field. For the first time, a female player was involved: Maria Catalano. She is Ronnie O’Sullivan’s cousin and, for many years, came second only to Reanne Evans on the women’s tour.
