Pinches won the English Amateur Championship in 1988, and subsequently turned professional in 1989. His best result on the Main Tour was a win at the PTC event 4 in 2010: he beat Ronnie O’Sullivan by 4-3 in the final.

Barry absolutely loves the game. After dropping out of the Main Tour in 2016, he regained his tour card via the Q-School in 2019, and managed to stay on it via the Q-school again in 2021.

He has been playing on the Seniors Tour regularly. His best result came at the 2019 Seniors Masters. He lost to Joe Johnson in the final, a match that was decided on a black ball shoot-out.
