Goodbye and good luck Barry Pinches, good luck Peter Lines

The WSS says goodbye to Barry Pinches, who graduated through the Q-School 2019, event 3 and is returning to the Main Tour for at least two more seasons. Despite countless “teasing” posts on social media, make no mistake, Barry will be missed on the WSS ROKiT Tour.

Congratulations, Barry and good luck!

Barry last played at the Crucible … last April, when he made the Final of the 2019 WSS ROKiT Masters, beating Stephen Hendry, and the reigning World Champion Aaron Canavan before losing on the re-spotted black to Joe Johnson. The way Barry played in that event was impressive and he took that form to the Q-school apparently!

Another graduate, is no other than Peter Lines, the first WSS World Champion, who having lost his tour card after the World Championship 2019, immediately returns, thanks to a very consistent campaign in the Q-School. Peter graduated through the Order of Merit.

Congratulations Peter and good luck!

Rory McLeod joins the WSS ROKiT Tour

As announced today on social media, Rory McLeod has decided to join the WSS ROKiT tour, following his recent relegation of the Main Tour.

Here is the announcement:

Today former World number 32, and the 2017 Ruhr Open Champion Rory McLeod has announced his decision to participate on the ROKiT World Seniors Snooker Tour next season. Rory first turned pro in 1991 and was one of the longest serving professionals on tour prior to his recent relegation. in 2009 he became the first Black player to qualify for the World Professional Championship, he also qualified in 2011 and 2017, the 2017 being particularly memorable as he defeated the current World Snooker Champion Judd Trump in round 1.

Rory MdLeod

Despite a recent failed attempt at Q School to regain his card, Rory had no thoughts of retirement and says he will embrace the challenge and opportunities that the ROKiT World Seniors Snooker Tour will give him, and look to regain his professional card status at Q School in 2020.Jason Francis, Chairman of the ROKiT World Seniors Snooker Tour said “Following on from Joe Swail’s decision to play on our tour we are delighted to welcome another great servant of the game who is embracing something we’ve created with the WPBSA that was never there before for players over 40 dropping off the main tour. Rory will prove to be a fierce competitor”Any player over 40 who is interested in getting their cue out and entering one of our qualifiers can do so by clicking here: https://www.snookerlegends.co.uk/rokit_ws_registration.html

Welcome Rory !

Women Tour Championship at the Crucible next August

As previous announced, Women’s Snooker will be showcased at the Crucible during the WSS ROKiT World Championship 2019.

Here are all infos you need as publihed by WWS

Women’s Snooker Stars Set to Compete at Crucible Theatre

World Women’s Snooker (WWS) will return to Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre this August for the all-new Women’s Tour Championship event.

To be staged as part of this year’s ROKiT World Seniors Snooker Championship, the invitational tournament will take place across one session from 10:00am on Saturday 17th August.

The event will feature the world’s top four ranked women’s players following this season’s Festival of Women’s Snooker event, including world number one Reanne Evans and reigning world women’s champion Ng On Yee of Hong Kong.

The pair will be joined by third ranked Rebecca Kenna who has reached two ranking finals so far this season, as well as Thailand’s Nutcharut Wongharuthai, who earlier this year became the first woman to compile a verified 147 break.

The Crucible Theatre has been the home of the professional World Snooker Championship since 1977 and the Women’s Tour Championship will represent the first time that women’s snooker will be played at the iconic venue since 2003 when Kelly Fisher lifted the last of her five world titles under the famous ‘twinkle’ lights.

The staging of the event will be the first of a three-year agreement which will see women’s snooker held at the Crucible until at least 2021.

Mandy Fisher, WWS President said: “All of us at WWS are hugely excited to be able to take women’s snooker back to the Crucible Theatre where so many unforgettable memories have been created and it will be fantastic to see the talented players that we have competing on the same stage.

“I would like to thank both Jason Ferguson of the World Professional Billards and Snooker Association and Jason Francis of World Seniors Snooker for helping to make this possible and I would encourage people to come along and see just what our players can do.”

Tickets are already on sale at the price of just £1.47 when purchased with a full-price ticket to any other session at the ROKiT World Seniors Snooker Championship, so book now to avoid disappointment, by phone 0114 249 600 or online HERE.

The ROKiT World Seniors Snooker Championship will run across four days from 15-18 August 2019 and feature several all-time greats of the game including ‘King of the Crucible’ Stephen Hendry and 10-time ranking event winner Jimmy White.

There will also be a session on the morning of Sunday 18th August held to showcase the talent on the World Disability Billiards and Snooker Tour.

ROK Drinks re-brands as ROKiT Drinks

Name Change Implemented to Align ROKiT Drinks with ROKiT Phones Sports Sponsorships

ROK Drinks, proud owners of the 700 year old ABK Brewery in Bavaria and the Bogart’s range of spirits within its growing drinks portfolio, has announced it has re-branded as ROKiT Drinks with immediate effect.

https://rokitdrinks.co.uk/

The change of name is designed to align ROKiT Drinks with the extensive sports sponsorship activities undertaken by its sister company ROKiT Phones.

ROKiT Phones, with unique glasses-free 3D screens and dual-SIM capability, is the multi-year Title Sponsor of the ROKiT Williams Racing Formula 1 team as well as Nic Hamilton’s British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) team.

In addition, ROKiT is the Official Jersey Partner of NBA team the Houston Rockets and is the Official Wireless Partner of NFL team the Los Angeles Chargers.

Furthermore, ROKiT is the Title Sponsor of the ROKiT World Senior Snooker Tour and has recently announced multi-year Brand Ambassador agreements with a host of leading tennis players including Jo Konta, Gael Monfils and three time Grand Slam champion, Stan Wawrinka.

ROKiT Chairman Jonathan Kendrick said “It makes complete sense to align all our ROKiT companies under the same brand name as each will benefit symbiotically from the support they can give to each other across the entire range of our brand-building and marketing activities.”

Joe Swail joins the WSS ROKiT Tour

Joe Swail lost his professional status at the end of last season and has decided to compete on the Seniors tour this season, as reported by WPBSA

Swail to Compete on ROKiT World Seniors Tour

28th May 2019

Two-time former World Championship semi-finalist Joe Swail has announced his intention to compete on the ROKiT World Seniors Snooker Tour next season.

Northern Ireland’s Swail was relegated from the professional World Snooker Tour at the end of the 2018/19 season following defeat to Joe O’Connor at April’s World Championship qualifiers. Known by his nickname ‘The Outlaw’ Swail decided not to attempt to regain his tour card through Q School and will instead switch his focus to providing coaching and competing on the Seniors circuit.

During his professional career Swail’s best performance was his run to the final of the 2009 Welsh Open, while he also reached a further nine ranking semi-finals, including at the 2000 and 2001 World Championship events.

Swail will now join a rapidly expanding Seniors circuit and will play for the right to compete at major events alongside the likes of seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry and former UK and Masters champion Jimmy White. The 49-year-old is already guaranteed to be in action at one major event following the decision to seed him through to the final stages of the ROKiT 6-Red World Seniors Championship, to take place in Coleraine in June 2020 with a £20,000 ‘winner takes all’ top prize, won this year by White.

Jason Francis, World Seniors Snooker Chairman said: “It is testimony to the growth of the ROKiT World Seniors Snooker Tour during that has been such a short time that a player of Joe Swail’s calibre has chosen to join us for the new season. We have demonstrated over the past 12 months that there is a viable alternative for players of all ability once their professional career is at an end and we look forward to welcoming more players like Joe over the coming months.”

The ROKiT 6-Red World Seniors Championship takes place at the Riverside Theatre in Coleraine from 5-6 June 2020. Tickets are now on sale HERE and include a meet and greet option with all the players.

Joe Swail will have to qualify for most events, but he has been given a seeded spot in the 2020 ROKiT 6-Red World Seniors Championship. This decision has not pleased everyone, with some regulars on the seniors tour arguing that Joe’s career doesn’t justify such privilege. Playing qualifiers doesn’t come cheap and players who are regulars invest a lot of money and efforts in the seniors tour. Someone seemingly getting “fast-tracked” isn’t going down well, understandably. However Joe isn’t given a “Legends” status, he’s given a seeded spot just for that one event, that will be held in his country, Northern Ireland. Joe is extremely popular in Northern Ireland, and his guaranteed presence at the venue, is also a guarantee to strongly attract the local audience and to help the success of the tournament as a whole. Commercially, it’s the right decision. This is beneficial to everyone involved in the WSS ROKiT Tour, a tour that is still in development and needs to grow its income to be able to further expand.

Disability Snooker to be Showcased at Crucible Theatre next August

When the announcement was made that the WSS ROKiT World Championship would be held at the Crucible next August, it was announced at the same time that both Disability Snooker and Women Snooker would be showcased during the event.

WDBS has now announced who the WDBS players will be, who will play at the Crucible

Disability Snooker to be Showcased at Crucible Theatre

Four leading players from the 360Fizz World Disability Billiards and Snooker Tour have earned the opportunity to compete at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield this August for the first time.

To be staged as part of the 2019 ROKiT World Seniors Snooker Championship, the session will take place on the morning of 18 August from 10:00am and feature four highly decorated players who compete regularly on the WDBS circuit.

Among those in action will be Daniel Lee, who plays in the Group 2 wheelchair category and earlier this year was named as the Vic Hartley Player of the Season in recognition of his success during the 2018/19 campaign.

He will be joined by Daniel Blunn, who was born with cerebral palsy and competes as a Group 4 player. Blunn has been a part of the WDBS family since our first event in November 2015 and has to date claimed an incredible eight events, including three during the current campaign.

Representing sensory disabilities are Coventry’s Nick Neale, a six-time winner of competitions for players with visual impairments and deaf player Shabir Ahmed, who has established himself as the dominant player in his category with six titles and was last year recognised at the Deaf Sports Personality of the Year Awards by finishing in third place in the overall voting.

The event will be the first as part of a three-year agreement which will also see disability snooker return to Sheffield in 2020 and 2021.

Nigel Mawer, WDBS Chairman said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our players to be able to play at the home of snooker and from speaking to them already I know just how excited they are to be able to live their dream and walk out on the same stage as their heroes.

“The event is going to be a real celebration of disability snooker and I would like to encourage all of our players to come along and support those competing and make it a day to remember!”

There will also be a session on the morning of Saturday 17th August held to showcase the talent on the World Women’s Snooker Tour.

All four players selected totally deserve the honour to be there. Actually there are so many deserving WBDS players that it must have been very hard to select only four. Those guys – and gals – are true everyday’s heroes, not allowing their disabilities to stop them achieving their dreams. Not just those four, but all of them at WDBS. Daniel Blunn is also a referee, in addition to be a player. Some of those players are coaches as well. They are a credit to the sport we love. Come and support them!

The SnowDrop Trust

When a child has been diagnosed with a life-threatening condition, it is devastating news and all too often parents don’t know where to turn to get the extra information, help and nursing support at home, they so desperately need. The Sussex Snowdrop Trust was founded 26 years ago to bridge the gap – and the services we provide for children and their families are even more in demand today than they were then. Nowadays children are at home very quickly after operations, travel daily to hospital for radiotherapy treatment and children with complex needs are at home and cared for by their parents. They need the vital support of a qualified children’s nurse to enable them to cope with the day to day demands of looking after a very sick child. The Snowdrop Care at Home Team of Paediatric nurses and our counselors are the professional friends that our Snowdrop families depend on – day by day – throughout their child’s illness.
The Snowdrop nurses also provide end of life care within the comfort, reassurance, and familiarity of home. Since Snowdrop was founded, nearly all children in our area, who have become terminally ill, have been at home during this very sad time. Parents say that being able to be at home with their child, gives them such precious time together.

Goodbye David Lilley, and good luck!

David Lilley is leaving the WSS ROKiT tour … because he has just qualified for the main tour and earned himself a two years professional card. It has been a long time coming, and we surely wish him all the best for the coming season.

In the Q-School event 1, David has defeated Barry Lee (4-1), Stephen Kershaw (4-1), Adam Duffy (4-2), Rodion Judin (4-0), Si Jiahui (4-1) and Sean Maddockx (4-0) to gain his professional status.

Congratulations David Lilley, and good luck!

There were a number of players involved in the event.

Amongst them, other than David, Lee Richardson and Barry Pinches did well and reached round 4.

All the results of the Q-school 2019 Event 1 are available on snooker.org
